(KPL) Thirteen Chinese people have been killed and other 33 injured after a tour bus crashed in Nan district, Luang Prabang province.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the bus carrying Chinese visitors on a home trip to China careened off a road and plunged into an 80-m valley.
44 out of the 46 people aboard were Chinese. The rest were Lao nationals- one guide and one driver.
The injured were hospitalized to Nan District Hospital and Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital.
An initial visual inspection suggested that the accident was caused by a technical malfunction, according to Lt. Col. Bounsavath Somphaxay, Head of Traffic Police Department, Luang Prabang Provincial Public Security Headquarters.
The road has just been built. After the road was opened for use, the Department of Public Works and Transport and relevant authorities have issued announcements banning passenger vehicles and heavy trucks or those vehicles in poor driving conditions from using the road as many points along the road are prone to accidents, said Lt. Col. Bounsavath.
