Thirty-three villages in six districts in Vientiane have been classified as red zones (highest coronavirus risk areas), according to the Centre of Information and Education for Health, Ministry of Health.
The red zones include 13 villages in Xaysettha district, six in Xaythany, three in Sisattanak, seven in Chanthaboury, one in Hadxayfong and three in Sikhottabong.
The Ministry of Health has classified villages into three zones – red, yellow and green – to ensure the prevention and control of Covid-19 in a manageable and realistic manner.
Red zone refers to an area with at least one case of infection and the origin of the infection is unknown or a cluster of at least two cases reported over the past 14 days.
Yellow zone refers to a village with one case of infection reported and its origin traced over the past 14 days, or a village bordering a red village and its residents have had a close contact with the infected.
Green zone refers to a village without cases of Covid-19 infection and no people have had close contact with the infected over the past 14 days.
