70 Malaysian Students Participate In Volunteer Mission In Laos

Seventy Malaysian Student Volunteers from various higher learning institutions in Malaysia together with 50 Lao student volunteers from Ban Keun Teachers Training College will be serving the community in the Lao PDR for two weeks in the 7th Joint Students Volunteer Mission by Student Volunteers Foundation (YSS), Ministry of Education of Malaysia, and the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR.

All of the student volunteers will be serving the community in five selected locations in Phonehong and Viengkham districts in Vientiane province according to YSS Chairman, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye in the opening ceremony held on Friday, Sep 13.

This is the 7th time YSS conducted the student volunteer mission in the Lao PDR since 2013 while this year being the 5th year of the programme as per the five-year agreement in the MoU between YSS and MoES signed in 2015.

YSS has continuously serving the community in the Lao PDR together with local student volunteers through the assistance and support of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, Embassy of Malaysia in Vientiane and Malaysian Business Chamber of Laos (MBCL).

According to the YSS Chairman in his speech, “YSS hopes that the Student Volunteers involved in this mission will be able to inspire and become role models to the local community especially school students aligned with the vision of the MoU.

Student Volunteers will also be conducting “Fun Learning” activities that will be focusing on the usage of English language, building school toilets, constructing volleyball court, repairing school furniture and facilities and many other activities based on YSS volunteering clusters.

Ambassador of Malaysia to the Lao PDR Mohd Aini Atan, Director of the Vientiane Provincial Education and Sports Department Chanphaeng Viphavani, President of the Malaysian Business Chambers Laos Lim Wai Hoong, First Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia Johan Arief Jaafar, and other officials attended the opening ceremony.
