70th Indian National Day Marked

(KPL) Indian Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mr. Ravi Shankar Aisola organized a reception party to celebrate the 70th Republic Day of India in Vientiane on Jan 25.

Present at the event also included Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, President of the Laos-India Friendship Association Bountiem Phitsamay, and hundreds of foreign diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations.

India achieved independence on August 15, 1947 and the constitution of the nation was adopted on January 26, 1950. Since then the day has been celebrated as the Republic Day of India on an annual basis.

India will continue to stand by the Lao PDR for all its developmental needs including those arising out of the consequences of the floods. India has so far extended nearly USD 250 million worth of concessional credit and grants for various projects in the Lao PDR including projects in the pipeline, said Ambassador Ravi Shankar Aisola.

The Vat Phou Temple restoration project funded by the Indian government for restoring the ancient temple of Vat Phou in Champassak has been extended for another 10 years namely till 2028.

In addition, the government of India through a grant project is also funding the setting up a Centre of Excellence in Software Development and Training (CESDT) in the Institute of Information and Communication Technology of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications of the Lao PDR.
