Some 969 new Covid-19 cases have been reported nationwide over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 78,469 including 11,942 active cases and 201deaths, according to Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay.

Dr Sisavath told a press conference today that some 5,481 people were tested for Covid-19 yesterday and the day also witnessed some 954 patients discharged from hospital.

Of the new confirmed cases, 968 were classified as domestic infections and only one as imported case-documented in Huaphan.

The domestic infections included 450 in Vientiane, 108 in Vientiane (province), 72 in Luang Prabang, 56 in Xayabury, 48 in Bokeo, 40 in Oudomxay, 39 in Phongsaly, 30 in Savannakhet and 28 in Champassak.

Meanwhile, 21 were recorded in Xaysomboun, 18 each in Huaphan and Xieng Khuang, 15 in Borikhamxay, 12 in Khammuan, 36 in Xayaboury, 34 Xieng Khuang, 31 Phongsaly, 13 Khammuan, seven Saravan, four Xekong and two in Attapeu.
