30 flights canceled due to bad weather


MANILA: Thirty flights via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were canceled and four diverted as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday due to inclement weather brought by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

The Manila International Airport Authority said the “unfavorable weather condition” led to the cancellation of flights Shenzhen Airlines (ZH) 9011/9012 Manila-Shenzhen-Manila; PAL Express (2P) 2932/2933 Manila-Basco-Manila; 2P 2014/2015 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 2P 2961/2962 Manila-Busuanga-Manila.

Also canceled were Cebu Pacific’s 5J 504/505 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 5J 506/507 Manila-Tuguegarao-Manila; 5J 1544/1545 Manila-Laoag-Manila; 5J 773/774 Manila-Pagadian-Manila and CebGo (DG) 6031/6032 Manila-San Jose-Manila; and DG 6113/6114 Manila-Naga-Manila; DG 6031/6032 Manila-San Jose-Manila; DG 6113/6114 Manila-Naga-Manila; DG 6055/6056 Manila-Busuanga-Manila; DG 6047/6048 Manila-Busuanga-Manila; DG 6051/6052 Manila-Busuanga-Manila; DG 6117/6118 Manila-Naga-Manila and AirSwift (T6) T6 714/715 Ma
nila-Romblon-Manila.

Meanwhile, four flights were diverted to other airports.

Flight 5J 326 Legazpi-Manila was diverted to Iloilo; AirAsia’s Z2 712 Kalibo-Manila and Z2 618 were diverted to Clark and Kalibo, respectively.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH 806 from Kuala Lumpur bound for Manila was diverted to Clark.

The weather bureau forecast the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina to dampen most areas in the country, especially across Luzon.

Batanes has been under wind signal no. 1 and will likely experience strong winds because of the typhoon, the bureau said. (PNA)
