Dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Oct. 4 82% higher

Manila: Dengue cases recorded from Jan. 1 to Oct. 4 is 82 percent higher than the same period last year, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday.

There are 269,467 confirmed infections as compared to 147,678 cases last year.

Among the recorded cases, only 2,856 or 1.06 percent had severe dengue, the DOH said.

“A total of 702 deaths have been reported, with a case fatality rate of 0.26 percent, lower than the CFR of 0.37 percent reported during the same period last year,” it said.

A decrease in cases have been recorded in the recent four weeks in all regions except for Metro Manila.

“A 20 percent drop in cases from Sept. 1 to 14, 2024, with 25,986 cases reported compared to the 32,649 reported from August 18 to 31, 2024,” the DOH said.

It noted that changes in figures may still occur due to late reporting from certain areas.

The public is urged to observe the 4S strategy: search and destroy mosquito breeding grounds; self-protection measures; seek early consultation when experiencing symptoms; and su
pport fogging or spraying in local hotspot areas where dengue cases are on the rise.
