Army Club Wins Taekwondo Championship

The Lao People’s Army Taekwondo Club was the winner of the 3rd Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship held in Vientiane Capital on November 26-27.

In the 2016 Taekwondo Championship, the Lao People’s Army Taekwondo Club prevailed winning 21 gold medals and being named overall champion followed by the Lane Xang Taekwondo Club which took 16 gold medals and Tavan Taekwondo Club which took home nine gold medals.

The competition saw the participation of 513 fighters from 24 taekwondo clubs from across the country. The competition featured several different categories for children weighing over 16 kg and adults weighing 40 kg and up.

The Taekwondo Championships was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Laos Mr Yun Kang Hyeon, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mr Boualane Syriphanya, President of the Lao National Taekwondo Federation Mr Vilay Duangmany, and relevant officials.

The aim of the competition was to select the best Taekwondo fighters for the Lao National Taekwondo Team and also to develop Taekwondo in Laos to meet regional and international standards, Mr Vilay said.

He said that the taekwondo continues to be a popular sport among young people in Laos.
