ASEAN, Chinese Journalists Exposed To Development, Growth In China’s Anhui

Nearly 40 reporters of mainstream media from ten ASEAN member states and Chinese media including China Radio International, China Daily, Asia-Pacific Daily, and Visual China visited Anhui Province, China for a study tour programme between May 26 and Jun 3.

They visited major cities of Anhui namely Hefei, Huaibei, Suzhou, Bengbu, Huainan, Lu’an and other places to focus on Anhui’s implementation of new concept of development, promotion of innovative initiatives, introduction of broad space for economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between Anhui and ASEAN, and promotion of friendly communication and win-win cooperation between Anhui and the regional bloc.

Anhui is located in the innermost part of the Yangtze River Delta region, China’s most economically dynamic region.

It occupies the nation’s strategically important location of economic development and adjoins the economically developed areas. Its unique geographical condition provides Anhui with an advantage for further development.

Anhui has emerged as a new science and technology powerhouse that is crucial for the sustainability of its capacity for innovation and competitiveness of economic development. Today, it is implementing an in-depth innovation driven development strategy. It has significantly improved the ability of scientific technological innovation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

The province is vigorously promoting the construction of innovation platforms including Hefei Comprehensive National Science Centre, Hefei Binhu Science City, Hefei-Wuhu-Bengbu National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone and Comprehensive Pilot Province of Innovation and Reform.

Four innovation support systems for technology and industry, platforms and enterprises, finance and capitals system and policies have been established.

Anhui’s innovation capacity of science and technology has been furthered. The province’ transformation of scientific and technological achievements has been comprehensively promoted.

The number of authorized invention patents per 10 thousand people reached 7.7. A number of breakthroughs have been made in science frontier such as quantum information, thermonuclear fusion, steady-state high magnetic field, and iron-based superconducting technology.

Its regional innovation capacity has steadily ranked Anhui among national index leaders for six consecutive years.

The contribution of scientific and technological advances toward economic growth has come to reach 56 per cent. Innovation has become the most powerful engine of economic expansion and the most distinctive feature of the times.

Anhui has strengthened continuously its infrastructure construction. It has gradually become one of the nation’s comprehensive transportation hubs.

The evidence of Anhui’s occupying a regional strategic position in the nation is more and more prominent. It stands out increasingly in the role of the interconnection of “the Belt and Road” initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
