Applications are now open for the 2019 Round of the Australian Government Endeavour Leadership Programme, which provides scholarships for highperforming international students, researchers and professionals to undertake short or longterm education, training and research opportunities in Australia.
This year Lao applicants have a special advantage, as the Australian government has made the Lao PDR a top priority country for participation in the program, along with others in ASEAN and the AsiaPacific.
The Endeavour Leadership Programme provides a range of scholarship options for study in Australia, including postgraduate and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) qualifications, short term research opportunities, and professional development activities, said Australian Ambassador to Laos JeanBernard Carrasco.
I am extremely pleased that Lao applicants for the Programme will be given a high priority this year, so that even more highachieving individuals from the Lao PDR will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and expertise and build institutiontoinstitution connections.
To date, fourteen highachieving Lao scholars and professionals have won prestigious Endeavour scholarships for study, research and professional development in Australia.
Thanongsack Duangdala received an Endeavour Scholarship for a Doctor of Education at Flinders University in 2012, which allowed him to gain research and educational management skills that have been crucial to his position as head of the Quality Assurance and Assessment Division at the National University of Laos.
The professional skills and improved English proficiency I received from my Endeavour Scholarship in Australia has been crucial for my work, and I am more confident than before to work with local, regional, and international stakeholders, said Mr Thanongsack.
The Endeavour Leadership Programme is one of a range of scholarship and training options available from the Australian government to support human resource development in the Lao PDR.
The programme complements the Australia Awards scholarships, which assist around 30 Lao students a year to undertake postgraduate or TVET study in Australia, the Laos Australia National Scholarships for 70 undergraduate students to study in Laos, and hundreds of other Australian government scholarships specific to the agriculture, defence and education sectors.
Applications for the 2019 Endeavour Leadership Program are open now and close on 15 November 2018.
