BIR urges online sellers to register biz

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) urged online sellers and traders anew to register their businesses and pay taxes.

Merlyn Vicente, chief of the Revenue District Office 8, which has jurisdiction over Baguio, said in an interview Thursday that the bureau monitors online sellers.

‘The concept is that all activities – selling, distributing, and trading goods and services must register and are required to post their certificate of registration (COR) on their pages and when going live to inform their clients of their legitimate status,’ she said.

Vicente said some customers are wary of fraud and thus require proof that they are dealing with legitimate businesses.

It will be a come-on if businesses are registered enterprises, she said.

BIR Regional Director Corazon Balinas, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas briefing on Tuesday, said they have online registration that could be accessed 24/7.

She said the BIR, an ISO-certified agency, has online services to make it easier for taxpayers to file documents
and pay their dues
