Burned Market Thongkhankhamon Makes a Comeback

A religious ceremony to bless a newly-built market at Thongkhankhamon was held on April 1, after two years spent on its construction.

The market, a sole investment by the Lao World Group under the 70 years concession, is scheduled to open to the public on April 6.

The religious ceremony was witnessed by Chairman of Lao World Group, Mr Peter Chanh, Deputy Vientiane Mayor, Mr Keolavanh Aphaylath, and other relevant officials.

This market burned down on March 23 2014 and the Lao World Group had been allowed to rebuild it by the government.

The new market is designed to be an up-to-date model, located in the heart of Vientiane Capital.

The second storey of the building will hold goods sale shops, in which the first zone has 208 rooms and second zone has 204 stalls.

An open air area located at the lower part of the second storey is designed to hold a fresh market with 376 stalls.

The first storey will be a parking area and the third to fifth storeys will be developed as a trade centre complex.
