The 11th Meeting of Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) has been taking place in Bangkok, Thailand from Mar. 21 to 24, 2016.
The Cambodian side is headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence H.E. Gen. Tea Banh, while the Thai side is led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Thai Defence H.E. Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan.
According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, Mar. 21-22 are for working groups’ meetings and Mar. 23-24, for plenary session.
The GBC meeting, held annually on a rotating basis, focuses generally on security, relationship and cooperation, and development along the common border, it pointed out.
At the 10th GBC Meeting took place in Phnom Penh on Dec. 24, 2014, both sides agreed to cooperate in increasing and maintaining security at the common border areas in the GBC framework, as well as in preventing and cracking down on human trafficking, labor exploitation, and other infractions at the border including drug trafficking, illegal logging, deforestation, and all illegal cross-border activities.
They also pledged to cooperate in improving the living standard of those living at the border areas by boosting border trade, especially the special economic zones, agriculture, public health, tourism, as well as education, religion and culture.
Besides, they reached an agreement to increase the cooperation between border security units of the two countries to maintain peace and security; and enhance the cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
