The Committee on Women’s Advancement, Mother and Child Affairs, under the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in cooperation with development partners held a meeting to exchange lessons on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Chaired by Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism and Chairman of the committee Savankhone Samountry, the meeting saw the presence of representatives of organisations under the ministry and international organisations.
The workshop aimed to broaden the understanding of officials from organisations affiliated to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism on the implementation of policies and laws related to CEDAW in Laos.
The promotion of gender roles and the advancement of women has been a priority of our country as well as of other developing countries in the world since 2015, said Mr Savankhone.
Over the past years, the regional and international community has witnessed dramatic changes, presenting both opportunities and challenges for socio-economic development, especially for the implementation of the strategy on promoting the advancement of women and children and the eradication of all forms of violence against women and children as our national integration into ASEAN and world community has provided our country an opportunity to develop in various areas, especially those related to gender roles,” said the deputy minister.
