COVID-19 vaccine from Japan to arrive in Laos soon

Approximately 320,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Japan will soon arrive in Vientiane, according to the Japanese Embassy to the Lao PDR.

The donation of the Covid-19 vaccine was announced by Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Hayashi Yoshimasa last month.

This donation will be additional to 616,820 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine which were provided by the Government of Japan to the Lao PDR in August this year. The total number of vaccines donated from Japan will be up to nearly 950,000 doses.

In addition to vaccines, Japan has been providing medical equipment and PPEs to the Lao PDR to support its fight against COVID-19.

Japan also intends to strengthen cold chain logistics in Laos by providing refrigerators and freezers under the programme of “Last One Mile Support”. This is aimed at further accelerating the rollout of the vaccination to as many people as possible in the country.
