Cuba to host 15th Havana Arts Biennial


(KPL/Prensa Latina) The Wifredo Lam Contemporary Arts Center, the National Council of Fine Arts and the Cuban Ministry of Culture will co-sponsor the 15th edition of the Havana Biennial, from Nov. 15 through Feb. 28, 2025.

This event of paramount significance in the universe of alternative fine arts, intends to contribute to the research, dissemination and recognition of the Visual Arts of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean, organizers said in a press release.

Coinciding with its 40th anniversary, the Havana Biennial, founded in 1984 at the behest of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the biennial will focus on analyzing its own trajectory, reassessing some of the topics dear to this fete of visuality and generating new communication and collaboration networks.

Under the theme ‘Shared Horizons’, the 15th edition will stress the basic aspiration of connecting and getting and giving feedback with and to creators and the community, through collaboration, mediation and fostering m
ultiple disciplines.

Some main motifs behind the coming event are its 40th anniversary, the 505th anniversary of the founding of Havana, and the birthday of the renowned Cuban painter Wifredo Lam (December 8, 1902 – September 11, 1982).
