Dengue cases 68% higher from Jan. 1 – Sept. 6


MANILA – Dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Sept. 6 rose to 208,965, 68 percent higher compared to the same period last year, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Thursday.

Latest data from the DOH show that the total dengue cases for the same period last year was 124,157.

About 546 deaths have been recorded, with a lower Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 0.26 percent compared to the CFR of 0.39 percent for the same period in 2023.

“Currently, cases are on an uptrend, showing a 25 percent increase from Aug. 4 to Aug. 17, 2024 with 36,335 cases reported, compared to the 29,021 reported from July 21 to August 3, 2024,” the DOH said.

There is a 25 percent increase in cases, with 36,335 reported from Aug. 4 to 17, compared to 29,021 reported from July 21 to Aug. 3.

All regions except Mimaropa, Bicol, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM showed an increase from Aug. 4 to Aug. 17.

The public is reminded to practice the 4S strategy against dengue:

Search and Destroy mosquito breeding grounds by eliminating stagnant water an
d their containers;

Use Self-protection measures like insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants;

Seek early consultation with a doctor or health worker for any symptoms; and

Support fogging or spraying in local hotspots or outbreak areas where an increase in cases is registered.
