The Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Philippine Sports Commission conducted the ceremonial signing of the Palarong Pambansa Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to serve as basis for and ensure the smooth conduct of the Palarong Pambansa.
“Kapag klaro yung rules, klaro yung sino yung pwede at hindi pwedeng maglaro, klaro yung mga disqualifications, di na sila aabot sa Palarong Pambansa venue,” former Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said.
“Ang ginawa po natin, doon pa lang sa regions and divisions, iniimplement na natin yung selection process. Tsaka kung may tanong, doon pa lang sinasagot na. Di na natin pinapaabot sa National palaro,” he added.
This IRR will also promote and improve the Palarong Pambansa as the primary avenue for providing in-school sports opportunities to improve the physical, intellectual, and social well-being of the youth.
Furthermore, Luistro cited the good effects of the institutionalization of the conduct of the Palarong Pambansa. “Itong batas (Republic Act No. 10588), nagbibigay po ito ng mas matibay na suporta na mapalawig lalo ng DepEd ang ganitong programa. Hindi lamang once a year na sports event, kundi a real sports development program in 81 provinces,” the former DepEd Secretary said.
Luistro also pressed that for the past six years, Palarong Pambansa has been run in an “ecological way”, to preserve the cleanliness and orderliness of the games venues.
Sports is for everyone
In promoting self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry, DepEd ensures that people from all walks of life-even the students with disabilities-were given a chance to participate in the country’s premier national sporting event. Appropriate sports events are also organized for students with disabilities.
“Sporting events participated in by students with disabilities ay talaga namang napakahalagang bahagi ng ating taunang Palarong Pambansa,” DepEd Assistant Secretary for Legal and Legislative Affairs Tonisito M.C. Umali said. (DepEd)
