Dozens complete IT training funded by Indian government

A graduation ceremony was held at Lao-India Centre for Excellence in Software Development and Training (LI-CESDT) to award certificates to successful participants who have completed courses on Data Communication & Networking and Java Programming conducted online by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Pune of India.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister of Technology and Communications Bounsaleumxay Khennavong, and Indian Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mr Dinkar Asthana, were present to award the certificates to the participants.

Deputy Minister Bounsaleumsay congratulated all the participants who completed their courses successfully and thanked the government of India for providing valuable support.

He and the Indian ambassador also congratulated LI-CESDT for successfully conducting very useful training courses for the Lao trainees amid COVID-19 pandemic.

The ambassador observed that India’s development cooperation portfolio in the Lao PDR stretches across a broad canvass—capacity building through Indian Technical and Economic (ITEC) Programme and long-term scholarships for higher studies, Quick Impact Projects for socio-economic development under grant assistance, projects under lines of credit or soft loans, joint Lao-India centres for English language training and entrepreneurship development, as well as heritage conservation projects, including restoration of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the iconic Vat Phou by experts from the Archaeological Survey of India, deputed under the ITEC Programme.

The course on Data Communication and Networking was conducted from Sep 14-Oct 30, 2020. It had four modules Introduction to Networking, Windows Server 2012, Introduction to Linux OS administration and Configuration and Configuration of Routers and Switches using Simulation Tool. A total of 13 participants attended this course.

The course on Java Programming was conducted from Nov 16, 2020 to Feb 19, 2021. It had six modules Software Development Life Cycle Fundamentals of Computers and OOPS Concepts Database Technologies Foundations of Web Technologies Core Java Enterprise Java Management Development Programme Project. A total of 15 participants attended this course.

The LI-CESDT was established in Vientiane with grant assistance from the Government of India and was inaugurated in November 2018.

Eight master trainers from the Lao PDR have so far been trained in India. An expert from the C-DAC was also deployed at the Centre for a period of one year for imparting training.

The Centre imparts training to government officials and also to private participants. Till date, the Centre has imparted training to more than 220 participants in different courses such as data communication and networking, information technology, advanced web technologies, ethical hacking and switching etc. from various organizations of the Lao PDR, including the government officials.

Mr Anon Phimsouvanh who attended the course on Data Communication and Networking expressed thanks for organizing the course and said that this course is very useful for his profession and Mr Sengphachan Souvandy who completed the Java Programming course said that this course is helping him upgrade his computer skills.
