(KPL) Chinese government has granted US$25,000 as a scholarship for 25 students of low income families in remote areas across the country.

A handover ceremony was held on Thursday, Nov 22, 2018 at the National University of Laos between Acting President of the National University of Laos Somsy Yorphansay, and Chinese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Jiang Zaidong.

The Chinese scholarship awardees will be given 200,000 kip per month over the course of four years to study at the National University of Laos.

They have been chosen among 143 students applying for the scholarship nationwide.

“Over past five years, 207 Lao students have received the scholarship of the Chinese government. Among these scholars, 37 have already graduated and some are studying at the National University,” Mr Somsy Yorphansay.

The government of China has actively contributed to the development of human resources in the Lao PDR by providing scholarships on annual basis to local students, said Ambassador Jiang Zaidong.
