(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Somdy Douangdy has been presented with Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun by Japanese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Takeshi Hikihara.
The award ceremony was held on Jul 25 at the Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane Capital.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Takeshi Hikihara congratulated Mr Somdy Douangdy on his significant contribution to strengthening the economic relations between Japan and the Lao PDR.
Mr. Somdy Douangdy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, was born in Savannakhet Province in 1952. He earned his master’s degrees in the Soviet Union and France before returning to the Lao PDR to contribute to serve in numerous high-level positions, most notably, Minister of Planning and Investment from 2012 to 2016, and subsequently Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance from 2016 to present.
During his tenure as Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr. Somdy Douangdy made invaluable contributions to improving the business environment especially as co-chair of the meeting ”Lao-Japan Public and Private Sectors Joint Dialogue” (Lao-Japan PPSJD).
As Minister of Finance, Mr. Somdy has been in charge of macroeconomic policy, fiscal stabilization. And he has been truly instrumental in strengthening the cooperation with Japan for these essential policy obligations.
The reception was attended by Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthirath, , Minister of Education and Sports Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune, who is also President of Laos-Japan Friendship Association, President of the National Assembly Economic, Technology and Environment Committee Bounpone Sisoulath, and President of the Laos-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association Khenthong Nuanthasing, as well as VIP guests from related ministries and organizations.
