MALASIQUI: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Pangasinan has partnered with several businesses to offer up to 70 percent discounts on school supplies until the first week of August this year through its annual ‘Back-to-School’ Diskwento Caravan.
In an interview on Thursday, Guillermo Avelino Jr., DTI-Pangasinan consumer and protection division officer-in-charge, said the participating stores are Unitop-Dagupan City, Magic Mall-Urdaneta City, Magic Mall-San Carlos City, Magic Mall-Tayug town, CSI The City Mall-Dagupan City, SM City-Rosales, CB Mall-Urdaneta City, and SM City-Urdaneta Central.
DTI has also released the ‘Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supplies for School Year 2024 -2025’ for the suggested retail price list of school supplies.
For this year, notebook prices range from PHP11.80 to PHP52, Grade 1-4 pad paper from PHP9.50 to PHP61, and intermediate pad paper prices are between PHP13.80 and PHP48.75.
Prices of pencils and ballpoint pens range from PHP3 to PHP33 and PHP11 to PHP33, respect
ively.
Sharpeners and rulers are priced at PHP15 to PHP69 and PHP16 to PHP29, respectively, while erasers were priced between PHP4.50 to PHP20.
‘We urged consumers to check the labels of school supplies for the name and address of the manufacturer or importer and the number of leaves in notebooks and papers, among others. They may also check the copy of ‘Gabay sa Pamimili ng School Supply School Year 2024 – 2025′ on our Facebook page as their guide,’ Avelino said.
Hazel Ann De Guzman, a mother of one in Dagupan City, said she bought her child’s school supplies at the CSI The City Mall since it is the nearest in her house and was glad to have availed of the discounts.
‘I always go to stores with high discounts to save some, even just a little amount, which I could already use for my fare,’ she said in Filipino.
Opening of classes for the school year 2024-2025 is set on July 29, 2024.
