(KPL) The Ministry of Energy and Mines continues to amend its development strategy so that it can ensure the reduction of electricity prices for the agricultural production sector.
The plan will benefit the agricultural sector by cutting electricity prices by 50% for crop producers and 30% for animal farmers, Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthirath told the ongoing 6th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 8th legislature on Monday.
Minister Khammany said that the contribution by the government to the agricultural sector remains relatively minor and if the government provides more support to the sector its production output will rise as a result.
In the agriculture sector, electricity debts accumulated since 1995 has been estimated at almost 200 billion kip. Yet, the government is advised to pay the debt to prevent it from piling up and to promote the production of local farmers, according to Minister Khammany.
