The European Union Delegation to Laos hosted a reception on April 25 to present the EU-ASEAN Youth Photo Competition award to Mr Chanthavikone Louangpradith, 22, the winner from Lao PDR.
The award was presented by the EU Ambassador to Lao PDR, Mr Leo Faber, and witnessed by relevant officials from government and international organisations.
The first EU-ASEAN Youth Photo Competition was organized under the theme Unity in Diversity the common spirit of both the EU and ASEAN people.
The purpose of the competition was to mark the 40th anniversary of EU-ASEAN dialogue relations.
The EU Ambassador to Lao PDR, Mr Faber, said at the reception, We do not only mark 40 years of EU-ASEAN partnership, promoting strong political, economic and social cooperation, but we are offering opportunities to the youth to forge links among themselves all across the ASEAN nations.
At the reception, Mr Chanthavikone described his photo by saying Most ASEAN people consume rice every day and today rice is becoming increasingly important. I think rice farmers are the best way to describe and represent ASEAN people to the world. It is how we produce rice.
More than 700 photos were received from across ASEAN member states, of which nearly 20 photos shot by Lao contestants were submitted to the organizing committee of the exhibition.
The relationship between the EU and ASEAN was established in 1977. Since then, the two partiies have enjoyed a dynamic partnership in a number of areas, from political dialogue, cooperation in non-traditional security areas, trade and investment relations and connectivity, to cooperation in community building among ASEAN member states.
