The European Union has provided EUR 162 million for the 2016-2020 initiative in Laos.
The statement was made at the 8th Lao PDR-EU Joint Committee meeting in Vientiane on Feb 17.
The aim of the meeting was to review the cooperation between European Union and Laos, as the EU has supported many projects mainly for basic education and UXO removal in Laos.
“The support from the EU contributed to the 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan and Laos’ commitment to graduate from Least Developed Country status by 2020,” said Khuanta Phalyvong, Director of the Europe-America Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This year the EU and the Lao PDR celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Cooperation Agreement,” said Mr David Daly, Head of Unit for South and South East Asia, European Commission.
All of the discussions provided for fruitful exchanges with important contributions coming from both sides.
