The Japanese Film Festival was launched on Dec 16 in the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Laos Takeshi Hikihara, invited guests from the Department of Cinema of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, celebrities and journalists.
Organized by the Japan Foundation Asia Centre Vientiane, the festival features 7 brand new Japanese movies that were commercially released in Japan over the last two years that represent comedy, family and youth drama, ninja film, animation and so forth.
Listed for screening at Vientiane Center Major Cineplex include Rudolf the Black Cat, Her Love Boils Bathwater, ReLIFE, Let’s Go, JETS!, MUMON, In This Corner of the World, and Survival Family.
The organizers of the event also offer a special prize on the online film review contest. One prize winner will be invited to the Tokyo International Film Festival and learn culture of Japanese people for four days in October next year.

Japanese Film Festival aims to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.
The Japan Foundation Asia Centre in Tokyo supervises Japanese Film Festival events in 12 countries this year. These include 10 ASEAN countries, Australia and India.
