Divorces and affairs, which increased by 90.66 percent over the past five years (2011-2015), topped the list of cases filed and resolved by all levels of the People’s Court.
Issues regarding loans from banks, which increased by 52.99 percent, occupied the second spot on the list of civil cases, followed by burglaries, criminal cases which increased by 31.72 percent, taking the third spot. These cases have been heard and resolved by different levels of the court.
This performance of the court over the past five years was reported by President of the People’s Supreme Court Mr Khamphanh Sitthidampha at the second session of the eight legislature’s National Assembly in November last year. He also gave a report on cases filed and resolved in 2015-2016 and the plan for the upcoming five years (2016-2020).
Over the past five years, all levels of the People’s Court have settled and resolved 36,070 out of the 37,840 cases filed.
Over 81 percent of cases filed with the court were resolved and deemed effective and satisfactory with guilt being admitted and decisions by the court agreed to. Over 18 percent of cases initially heard by preliminary courts appealed their cases.
Last year, all levels of the People Court resolved about 8,320 out of the 10,500 cases filed.
