Farmers Transplant Rice Crops on over 125,000 ha so far this dry season

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has reported that over 78,000 ha nationwide, 83 per cent of the set target, have been planted with rice crops since the beginning of dry season this year.

Vientiane Capital reported the largest area planted with rice crops – over 52,000 ha – when compared to other provinces. Meanwhile, rice crops have been planted on 18,000 ha in the southern provinces and 7,000 ha in the northern provinces.

In addition, cash crops have been planted on another 125,000 ha, representing 88 per cent of the plan. These include over 54,000 ha in Vientiane Capital, more than 45,000 ha in the northern provinces and over 25,000 ha in the southern provinces.

Industrial crops have also been planted on over 5,500 ha in Vientiane Capital, according to Head of the Vientiane Capital Agriculture and Forestry Department Mr Linkham Douangsavanh.

Last year, 86,900 tonnes of dry season rice crops were harvested in Vientiane Capital. Meanwhile, rainy season rice farming yielded 236,740 tonnes of rice on 53,800 ha. The harvest represented 99 per cent of the set target.
