The event expects participation by government sectors and private tour operators from Vientiane Capital and the provinces of Vientiane, Borikhamxay, Khammuan, Xaysomboun and Savannakhet.
The event will feature parades, traditional performances, a Lao food festival, a singing contest, boat racing, a Lao traditional fashion show, and traditional sport competitions along with a trade fair featuring products from the six central provinces and neighbouring counties.
Over 300 booths are expected to take part in the trade fair and more than 3,000 visitors are expected to attend the week-long festival.
“The festival aims to promote tourist sites, culture, the livelihoods of minorities and wonders of the central provinces to both domestic and foreign visitors,” Vientiane Provincial Governor Mr Bounsone Phetlavan told a press conference held in Vientiane Province last Friday.
Other objectives of the event are to promote locally made products such as agricultural products, finished products, handicrafts, and products indigenous to particular ethnic groups as well as to encourage tourism – related businesses in the six provinces to take part in environmental conservation, the preservation of socio-culture heritage and the involvement of local communities in developing basic infrastructure to ensure the integration of the tourism market in the central provinces and Vientiane Capital into the regional and international tourism industry.
