Four Lao, Thai suspects caught smuggling 69 heroin cakes

Four Lao and Thai nationals have been arrested after attempting to smuggle 69 heroin cakes into the north-central Vietnamese province of Nghe An, Vietnam breaking news on November 23.

The four suspects, Chiramet, 32, Chaikitkun, 34, Saesong tho, 43, all from Thailand, and 22-year-old Nuxong from Laos, were apprehended by provincial border guards, officers confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

The offenders were caught red-handed as they transported 69 cakes of heroin weighing over 30 kilograms in two semi-trailers into Vietnam at around 7:30 pm on Monday. All of the contraband, along with the two trucks and relevant documents were confiscated after their arrest.

According to initial statements from the detainees, they, along with several Vietnamese suspects had established a trans-national drug smuggling ring, buying the heroin at the Golden Triangle area.

The Golden Triangle is an area of around 950,000 square kilometers that overlaps the mountains of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand. The heroin was then transported into Vietnam for distribution, they added.

The exhibits and suspects have been transferred to relevant authorities in Laos for further investigation.
