(KPL) October 15 is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
Handwashing with soap and water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of disease. Yet, 3 billion people still lack basic handwashing facilities with soap and water at home.
The theme for Global Handwashing Day 2019 is Clean Hands for All, reminding that we must be inclusive when addressing handwashing disparities. This year’s theme follows the push to leave no one behind in the Sustainable Development agenda.
Therefore, the Chanthaboury and Sisattanak District Education and Sports Offices celebrated the Global Handwashing Day 2019 at Neerada Primary-Secondary School and Sathaphone Primary-Secondary School in Vientiane Capital on October 15-16.
The celebration was opened by the Director of the Vientiane Capital Department of Education and Sports, Mr. Somphou Keophanya who remarked on the importance of handwashing, saying: if children are healthy and study in a healthy environment, they will perform better in school and share the knowledge with their families.
Handwashing is an important part of keeping food safe, preventing diseases, and helping children grow strong.
Diarrhea limits the body’s ability to absorb nutrition from food and is still a major cause of death in many countries.
