Government Accelerates Census of Low-income Families Affected by Covid-19

The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare has issued a notice urging the Provincial Departments of Labour and Social Welfare and relevant authorities to speed up conducting census of unemployed workers who are not covered by social insurance and low income families affected by Covid-19.

The data will help the government decide how to provide assistance to the affected families.

Workers and families affected by Covid-19 must seek prior approval from the chief of their respective village for their eligibility to receive aid from the government.

Some 105 new cases including 72 in Bokeo (70 in Tonpheung district), 15 in Vientiane and 12 in Champassak were recorded today.

Vientiane (province), Savannakhet and Phongsaly recorded two new cases each.

The total number of Covid-19 infections currently stands at 1,177 as 101 patients have recovered from the disease since the first case of Covid-19 was recorded in March 2020.

Vientiane has the highest number of Covid-19 of 600 followed by Bokeo 205, Champassak 169, Savannakhet 40, and Vientiane (province) 16.

Luang Prabang has 13 confirmed cases of Covid-19, Oudomxay does 8, Saravan 7, Luang Namtha 6, Phongsaly 5 and Xayaboury 3.

Borikhamxay has 2 as Khammuan and Xieng Khuang have one case each.
