Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith told the 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party that the 10th five-year socio-economic development plan of the government is focused on achieving six main goals including ensuring constant, quality, stable and sustainable economic growth and developing competent human resources to meet development trends.
He said that human resource must be able to conduct research and use science and technology to improve the effectiveness and value addition in the production and service sectors.
Improving people’s living conditions and protecting environmental balance and reducing disaster risks are among goals the government is determined to achieve along with developing good basic infrastructure and actively participating in international and regional cooperation and integration.
The government’s development plan is also focused on ensuring public governance is effective, society is equal, just, and protected in line with the rule of law trend.
The government’s plan also aims to create fundamental factors for ensuring political stability, security and order, harmony, democracy, justice and civilization in the country, and ensure quality economic growth through reforming economic structure in each sector and province.
The government will seek effective solutions to financial and monetary constraints.
Set as a goal in the government plan include promoting rural development and poverty reduction to ensure the Lao people enjoy better living conditions; developing green and environment-friendly economy; protecting and using natural resources in a sustainable and effective manner.
Prime Minister noted that the general goal of the government is to continue to lead the country to the graduation from the least developed country status, increase people’s access to employment and better living conditions, ensure better security and order in the society, and implement sustainable development goals 2030 and national green growth strategy in an effective manner.
The government will decisively address chronic development constraints and current challenges including impacts of Covid-19, climate change; and transform potentials of the country into new spearhead economic drivers, according to the premier.
