The monthly meeting of the government for November has witnessed the approval of guidance on the promotion of cooperation with China and Vietnam, and a report on the implementation of projects funded with grant supports and loans from the two neighbouring countries and that on Chinese investment in Laos.
Held on Dec 6-7, the government’s monthly meeting also saw the approval of guidance on the materialisation of the agreements reached during the state visit by President Xi Jinping in November.
Several agreements were made by the Chinese government during the state visit of President Xi Jinping. These included an agreement on the provision of a grant support worth CNY 4 billion to fund development efforts over the next three years.
A report on the progress in implementing Laos-Vietnam cooperation projects for 2017-2018 was also approved at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.
The resolution of the meeting has asked relevant sectors to translate in a prompt manner the documents the government has recently signed with its Chinese counterpart into action plans.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Thongloun briefed his deputies, ministers and representatives of relevant sectors that over the past one month the government has implemented several priories.
The government has directed closely the addressing of issues related to peace and order, especially those on border issues, drugs, road accidents, and other social ills to create favourable condition for development and attracting foreign visitors for Visit Laos Year 2018.
The government has assigned the National Economic Research Institute to play a key role in conducting research projects for the government according to its role.
Prime Minister also urged relevant sectors to continue to monitor and address issues related to Laos-China Railway project, hydropower and mining projects, investment projects in special economic zones and other large-scaled investment projects.
Special attention must be attached to these projects to ensure they are implemented as planned and effectively as well as to the addressing of their impacts on local communities and environment to ensure these projects best benefit local people and improve their living standards so they will win the support of the local people, said Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.
