The government has approved a special budget package worth LAK 500 billion (58.7 million USD) to repair basic infrastructure damaged by flooding last year.
Since a number of roads, bridges, irrigation facilities, and other basic infrastructure were severely damaged by floods last year, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will play a leading role in implementing the repair task, a meeting held in Vientiane was told on Wednesday.
The economic loss caused by the disasters has been estimated at approximately USD 147 million.
Yet, the delayed repair of damaged infrastructure has had extended negative impacts on production activities in the country over time, and the total loss is likely to increase to USD 500 million, the meeting was told.
