The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare last week donated over 70 tonnes of rice as relief for flood-affected victims in Kasy district, Vientiane province.
The handover ceremony was held last week between Deputy Minister of Finance Bounchom Oubonphaseuth, and Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Bounkhong Lasoukanh.
Over 300 houses with 377 families in two villages of Kasy district were reportedly hit by a severe flood last year.
Over 70 tonnes of rice will be donated to flood-affected victims in Nongsan and Thamherb villages in Kasy district.
The government has a relief aid policy to provide relief for people who are affected by floods and natural disasters.
More than 100 hectares of upland and wet season rice in the district had been damaged and almost 100 livestock and poultry deaths were reported.
The flooding also damaged many of the area’s irrigation channels and dams.
Many of the affected families were moved to temporary shelters because their single-story homes had been inundated with water.
