Gov’t Plans Recovery Efforts In Disaster-hit Areas

(KPL) The government has deliberated and approved in principle a disaster recovery plan to be implemented in 124 districts hit by disasters.

According to the plan, over 3,166 billion kip is needed for its implementation in the disaster-hit districts.

The government approved at its monthly cabinet meeting for September a special policy to support disaster recovery efforts especially through reducing land taxes and electricity prices in affected areas, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith told the 6th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly’s 8th legislature on Nov 28.

The government has also allocated a funding of 500 million kip for rehabilitating infrastructure and promoting the agricultural production of affected families in 2019.

Priority will be given to development projects in the affected areas. Farmland will be provided and permanent housing built for affected families in Attapeu’s Sanamxay district, for instance.

Disasters taking place between mid July and late September have caused damages worth several trillions of kip including over 1.6 trillion kip in transport sector, 1.22 trillion kip in agriculture and forestry sector and 166 billion kip for water-related facilities.
