Iloilo City village officials told to install CCTV system

Village officials in Iloilo City should allocate a budget for the acquisition and installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) system in their premises to boost the anti-criminality campaign.

Maria Irene Ong, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay Iloilo City chapter, said barangays with no projects should consider the installation of CCTV.

‘Other barangays have no projects, so they can utilize their budget for that,” Ong said in an interview on Thursday.

Ong added that barangay officials know which areas of their village are at risk and need cameras for security.

‘It’s one way of knowing if there are drug personalities, especially questionable are those visiting during unholy hours,’ the Liga president added.

Ong said those with CCTV must ensure the reception is not blurred, otherwise, they need to change them with clearer ones.

On Wednesday, Ong proposed a resolution during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod for the CCTV installation, citing that law enforcement agencies in the coun
try have already proven that CCTV systems are among the ‘most effective tools in crime deterrence, prevention, detection, and solution.’

The budget for the acquisition and installation of CCTV has to be included in their development plan for 2025 since they have already completed their budget plan for 2024.

‘The non-compliance of this resolution to include the budget allocation in the 2025 development plan shall warrant the non-approval of the said development plan,’ the resolution stated.
