Indonesia Holds Sport Events to Mark Its 72nd Independence Day in Vientiane

The Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane held sport and games events in Vientiane to commemorate the 72nd Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia (Aug 17, 1945).

The events were attended by Indonesia Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mr Irmawan Emir Wisnandar and more than 100 embassy staff and Indonesian nationals residing in Vientiane.

The events held between Aug 13-14 included aerobic dance, table tennis and bowling competitions, domino games, and fun activities for children.

In a micro scale, this event can be understood to spread the solidity of harmony among Indonesia’s people living in the Lao PDR. In a larger scale, the event will spark the spirit to create positive ways to enhance the relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Laos, said ambassador Wisnandar.

Indonesia’s culinary was also presented at the event.

It is important to note that 2017 also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Laos. The two countries established diplomatic relations on Aug 30, 1957.

The close relationship between Laos an Indonesia has been strengthened through increased frequency of visits between high ranking officials of both countries and their mutual support under bilateral, regional and multilateral frameworks.

The embassy has also scheduled trade fairs, seminar, photo exhibition and other social events for the celebration of the diplomatic relations between Laos and Indonesia.
