The Embassy of Indonesia in Vientiane on Aug 17 held a flag hoisting ceremony to mark the 71th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia (Aug 17, 1945).
Indonesian Ambassador to the Lao PDR, Mr Irmawan Emir Wisnander acted as the Inspector of the ceremony, while Indonesian Defense Attache to Laos, Colonel Albert B. Tiranda was the Commander.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Indonesian nationals residing in Laos and students who are studying Indonesian language at the embassy.
The flag ceremony is part of the series of events the Embassy has arranged to commemorate the Indonesian national independence.
August 17 is celebrated among Indonesian people recalling the day when Indonesia was declared independent from the Netherlands. This day is filled with festivities and celebrations.
The celebration of Independence Day is of great significance for the Indonesian people and their national history.
2017 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Indonesia and there are many things that we have done with Laos, said Mr Wisnander.
In political area, many exchange visits have been made by high-ranking officials between Indonesia and Laos. Moreover, the important steps to escalate the relations of the two countries in the future are in all related aspects, including the politics, economy, investment, and social-culture sphere.
To mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the embassy has scheduled trade fairs, seminars, a photo exhibition and other events that will showcase the rich culture and close relations between the two nations.
During the event, Mr Wisnandar also saw off awardees of Darmasiswaand Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) scholarships which will pursue their Master’s Degree courses and learn Indonesia’s culture at leading universities in Indonesia.
Since 2006, more than 100 Lao nationals have been awarded Indonesian government scholarships to study in Indonesia.
