The International Women’s Club of Brunei (IWCB) recently hosted a dinner at the Swensen’s Cafe and Restaurant in The Mall, Gadong, for the visiting members from the Children Cancer Foundation (CCF) of Singapore. They are in Brunei Darussalam for a four-day goodwill visit.
The guest of honour was Desmond Koh, Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam. Also in attendance were Dr. Hjh Norehan bind Hj Johari, Chairman of Children’ Cancer Foundation (YASKA) and some members from YASKA Brunei.
The committee members of the club were joined by the honorary members comprising of the spouses of the diplomatic corps in Brunei Darussalam from Laos, Myanmar, Republic of Korea, Bangladesh and Thailand.
In her speech, Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah Ungku Hj Osman, president of IWCB, welcomed the youngsters and highlighted the continued commitment of the club to social and charitable activities and to foster goodwill and friendship. She said that the club was deeply honoured and privileged to host these members who have shown courage through their daily struggles in combating cancer.
Desmond Koh, in his speech, also commended the youngsters for their courageous spirit and determination in facing such challenge in their lives. He wished them a wonderful stay in the country.
The event saw two of the CCF Singapore members spoke of their journey and how with proper support they were able to overcome the challenges that they have to face in their daily lives.
The guests enjoyed the sumptuous food which was fully sponsored by the Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah Ungku Haji Osman, president of IWCB, and her spouse Dato Paduka Haji Awang Ahmad.
The event concluded with souvenirs presentation to each of the visiting youngsters followed by their performance of the song ‘You are My Sunshine’.
