A new health centre has been constructed in the northern province of Phongsaly under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The handover ceremony was held on Mar 11 with the attendance of Mr. Sanmany Indavong,Vice Governor of Bountaydistrict, Phongsaly Province, and Mr. Keizo Takewaka, Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR.
The project, funded by the grant of over US$ 97,000, has been for the reconstruction of the health centre at Longnai, Bountay district, Phongsaly.
The facilities along the river are affected by flooding during the rainy season each year, putting patients and medical staff in danger.
Under this project, the location of the centre has been moved to higher ground for ensuring the safety. It is expected to provide stable basic medical services more safely in every season.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Takewaka stated “It is our great pleasure to witness the completion of the project. Japan will continue to strongly support the efforts of the Lao government in the health sector in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage.”
Over the past 30 years, 27 hospitals and 30 health centres have been constructed across the Lao PDR with funding from the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
