Japan Helps Improve Woodworking Skills of Lao Trainers

Japan International Cooperation Agency has provided US$ 250,577 through the International Cooperation NGO IV-Japan to support the Project for Improving Skills of Woodworking Trainers of Vocational Education Schools in Laos.

An agreement on the Japanese support was signed at the IV-Japan Office in Vientiane Capital between Ms Sachiko Tominoga, Representative of International Cooperation NGO IV-Japan and Mr Phouvieng Phoumilay, Director of the Vocational Education Development, Ministry of Education and Sports.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Yoneyama Yoshiharu, Chief Representative of JICA to the Lao PDR and relevant officials.

The 4-year project is being implemented in Vientiane Capital. It aims to improve vocational education in the Lao PDR, especially for improving skills of woodworking trainers, said Ms Sachiko Tominoga.

This is our second time to support vocational training for teachers at vocational education schools in Laos, said Ms Sachiko Tominoga.

The project activities include the selection of pilot woodworking schools and core-trainer candidates and the implementation of core-training and final examination for woodworking trainers, according to Ms Sachiko Tominoga.

At the ceremony, Mr Phouvieng Phoumilay expressed thanks to the IV-Japan and JICA for their generous support to improving vocational education in the Lao PDR.
