(KPL) Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance and Japan held the 5th seminar on Value-Added Tax (VAT) on 7 Jan to promote discussion on VAT among tax officers.
The seminar was held for officials to deepen understandings about tax administration for effective implementation particularly focusing on refund process of VAT based on the revised VAT law which was officially approved at the National Assembly session in 2018.
The discussion facilitated by a Japanese expert, Mr. Hiroyuki Kato from the Ministry of Finance in Japan, contributes to establishment of series of instructions related to the revised VAT law currently being prepared by the Tax Department.
The collaboration between Laos and Japan on VAT issues was initiated as one of the assistances by the Japanese government to respond to a request for fiscal stabilization in the Lao PDR from Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith to his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in 2016.
The seminars on VAT issues have been organized four times in April, July in 2017, January and June in 2018.
