The 3rd General Meeting of the Khaen Lao Art Association took place on Oct 8 at the Lao Front for National Development, Vientiane.
The meeting was chaired by Spokesperson to the Government and President of the Committee for Advocating the Establishment of the Khaen Lao Art Association Chaleurn Yeapaoher.
The meeting provided the participants with an opportunity to review the performance of the association over the past five years and discuss objectives set for the next five years and how to strengthen the role of the association in preserving and promoting Khaen traditions and Khaen music.
The meeting announced Mr Khamphan Meuansithida as the new President of the Khaen Lao Art Association as Spokesperson to the Government Chaleurn Yeapaoher and former Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad were elected as Honorary Presidents of the association.
The Khaen Lao Art Association was established on Dec 13, 2005. Several festivals have been organized since then to promote the Khaen, the music of which has been named as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
