The celebration of Lao New Year or Pi Mai Lao 2560 – the year of the rooster – in Vientiane Capital will be colourful, as it will focus on promoting Visit Laos Year 2018 and attracting more domestic and foreign visitors.
Many schools and government and private sectors have started their New Year celebrations.
The procession of Nang Sangkhane or Miss Lao New Year on 14 April will be accompanied by leading officials of Vientiane Capital.
In Luang Prabang also, the organising committee has designed large tourism promotion banners to promote the Miss Lao New Year procession on 15 April, which will highlight various outstanding tourist sites in each of Laos’ provinces.The organising committee has also arranged several tourism promotion booths to let visitors know more about tourist sites in Luang Prabang province.
This year, the Government issued five public bans for Lao New Year celebrations last week, in an effort to maintain social order and promote and preserve Lao traditions and culture.
In addition, state offices and the general public nationwide have been asked to organise a farewell party to BE 2559 in accordance with the longstanding traditional culture of Laos and the government’s policies throughout the five-day celebration from 13 to 17 April.
The celebrations are to reflect the preservation of fine customs including parties, Baci ceremonies within families or pouring water for mutual blessing, pouring scented perfume water for Buddha images at the temples and building sand stupas, etc.
