The first solar power plant, with generation capacity of 3 MW, located in Naxaythong district, Vientiane Capital will being generating electricity next month, according to the Director of EDL-Generation Public Company, Ms Rattana Prathoumvan.
“The solar power plant, located in Changsavang village, is a pilot project of Laos and is set to generate about 10 megawatts per year,” explained Ms Rattana during a working visit to the plant on January 25.
The project is a joint investment between the EDL-Generation Public Company, holding 60% of the shares, and Pure Electric Power Development Company, holding 40%. The total investment was over 27.6 billion kip (about US$3.45 million).
The construction of the solar power plant began in January last year and preparations are being made for it to begin generating electricity for the public next month.
The operating life of a solar cell is about 25 years.
