Lao PDR has always respected the 1995 Mekong Agreement and follows the MRC procedures, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sommad Pholsena told the Ministerial Meeting for the 3rd MRC Summit on Wednesday.
Ministers of natural resources from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam met on Wednesday in Siem Riep ahead of the 3rd Summit of Mekong River Commission.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of dialogue partners from China and Myanmar, and development partners.
Development projects in Mekong tributaries and any proposed mainstream hydropower projects have been notified through the PNPCA process (Procedures for Notification, Prior Consultation and Agreement) based on comprehensive scientific studies and also implementing joint action plan for monitoring on operation and ongoing projects, said Minister Sommad.
He told the meeting that the Lao PDR stood with strong commitment to live in harmony with its neighbours in the accordance with the principle Meeting the needs keeping the balance following idea one Mekong one Spirit.
The minister urged the participants to continue to be innovative and advance sustainable development through various platforms and work as one towards MRC vision.
