Laos and Austria have agreed to further enhance cooperation in economy, trade, investment, education, culture and other areas.
The commitment was made at the meeting between Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith and Austria’s Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Sebastian Kurz in Vienna, Austria on May 29.
Mr Saleumxay’s visit to Austria on May 28-29 was in response to an invitation from Austria’s Federal Minister for Europe Sebastian Kurz, aiming to further boost the relationship and cooperation between the two counties.
At their bilateral meeting, the two ministers highly valued the cooperation between the two countries over the past 5 decades as the Austrian government has provided more than EUR180 million in low-interest loans to support development in Laos in the fields of health, agriculture, education, and basic infrastructure, among others.
They also exchanged points of view on regional and international issues of common interest.
The Lao minister also proposed the exchange of visits by businesspeople in the two countries and encouraged Austrian businesspeople to visit Laos and seek business and investment opportunities in the country.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Austria (September 1, 1967-2017).
On the same day, Mr Saleumxay and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to the President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen.
