Laos has recorded 952 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily infection ever recorded since the first case was detected in the country in late March in 2020.

The infections included 594 local infections and 358 imported cases. It is the first time in months the local Covid-19 transmissions outnumber the imported cases.

The new cases, detected among 3,107 people tested for Covid-19 yesterday, have raised the total in the country to over 13,900 including 4,366 active cases and 11 deaths.

Most of the local infections were reported in Savannakhet at 551 with 543 detected among inmates. Bokeo and Vientiane reported 29 and 11 local transmissions, respectively. Xayaboury, Champassak and Vientiane (province) reported one local transmission each.

Of the imported cases, 112 were reported in Khammuan, 110 in Saravan, 80 in Savannakhet, 54 in Champassak and one each in Xayaboury and Vientiane, according to the Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Sisavath Soutthanilaxay.
